Static & Residual Pressure
Module 5 · ~12 min
Understand the difference between static and residual pressure, observe residual dropping as flow demand increases, and learn to recognize a weak water supply.

Static Pressure: The Resting Baseline
Static pressure is the pressure measured in a water system when no water is flowing. It represents the potential energy stored in the supply — the baseline before any demand is placed on the source. When you connect to a hydrant and read the intake gauge before opening any discharges, you are reading static pressure. This number tells you the available head in the distribution system at that location.
