Tank to Pump

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Does Tank to Pump certify me as a pump operator?

No. Tank to Pump V1 is a training aid. It is designed to support learning and practice, but it does not certify competence or replace instruction approved by your authority having jurisdiction.

Does Tank to Pump replace hands-on pump training?

No. The app helps learners understand concepts before and between hands-on sessions. Real pump operations still require hands-on apparatus training, instructor guidance, local SOPs/SOGs, and the apparatus manual.

Is the pump panel based on a specific apparatus?

V1 uses a generic side-mount pump panel. It is designed to look and feel familiar, but it is not an exact replica of any specific apparatus or manufacturer.

Can I use it without an account?

Yes. You can start learning, use the calculators, and try starter scenarios without creating an account. Create a free account when you want to save progress.

What does an account save?

An account can save lesson progress, scenario attempts, and basic learning history. These are personal practice records, not official department training records.

Can my department use it for official records?

Not in V1. Saved progress and scenario history are personal practice records, not official department training records. Department-level views and reporting are future roadmap items.

Does it work on mobile?

The lessons and calculators are designed to work well on mobile. The full pump panel and scenario experience are best on a tablet, laptop, or desktop because of screen size.

What formulas does the app use?

V1 uses simplified training-math defaults for concepts such as friction loss and pump discharge pressure. These defaults are intended for learning and may not match every department, hose package, SOP, or apparatus.

Can departments customize formulas or SOPs?

Not in V1. Future versions may support department formula presets, apparatus profiles, and local SOP overlays.

Does Tank to Pump include instructor mode?

Not in V1. Lightweight group/instructor support is planned for V1.5, including session codes, shared scenario launch, and basic completion summaries.

Does Tank to Pump claim formal standards alignment?

No. V1 is standards-informed: it uses common fire-service pump-operator concepts and training language, but it does not claim formal standards alignment, JPR mapping, or AHJ approval. Future academy-focused versions may explore JPR mapping and AHJ customization.

Can I use this at drill night?

Yes. V1 can be used informally with a crew around a tablet, laptop, or projector. Formal group mode and instructor dashboards are planned for later.

Will it include foam, aerial, wildland, relay, or standpipe operations?

V1 includes single-shot teaching calculators for several of those domains (relay pumping, standpipe, tanker shuttle, drafting, foam eductor checks), but full simulation stays focused on core pump-operator fundamentals: tank-to-pump, recirculation, hydrant transition, friction loss, PDP, weak supply, and basic drafting troubleshooting.
