SOP / SOG
Standard Operating Procedure / Guideline
SOP and SOG stand for standard operating procedure and standard operating guideline — a department's written rules for how to carry out operations. They define the specific pressures, flows, and methods a crew is expected to use.
Where this app teaches the general idea behind a pump operation, a department's SOPs and SOGs set the exact practice: which line off which discharge, what target pressure, what sequence. They are the local translation of the principles.
Procedures and guidelines differ slightly in how strictly they bind, but both exist to make crew actions predictable and safe. Training builds the mental model; the SOPs and SOGs tell you how your department wants it done.
